The opportunity

Job Description

Manufacturing Supervisor

 

Job Scope:  Support the plant and oversee the daily production process – day shift or night shift – during operations to ensure a productive workforce that supports all operational goals in compliance with company policies and local, state, and federal regulations.  Responsibilities include: safety, housekeeping, scheduling, management, talent development, team building, organization and direction of skilled and semi-skilled production employees’ work to ensure the safe, effective and efficient operation of the department. Supervisors generally manage between 20 and 30 hourly associates.

 

Primary Job Functions:

  • Participate in the hiring and development of the manufacturing group to ensure proper execution of all production-related activities in a safe and effective manner
  • Ensure a safe and clean work environment by conforming to required safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Maintain a safe and environmentally friendly work place, continually verifying that all environmental and safety rules are being followed
  • Plan, schedule and assign production activities through team members to ensure most effective utilization of manpower and materials
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of manufacturing process Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure company procedures and policies are followed
  • Ensure accountability and recommend corrective actions when policies and procedures are not followed
  • Assist in coaching and performance feedback to team members 
  • Develop a team of multi-skilled associates
  • Administer the policies described in the Employee Handbook set forth by Human Resources
  • Hold daily and weekly meetings with team members to communicate production status and any item of importance
  • Develop and promote the benefits of attaining new skills to stimulate creative thinking and development of key performers
  • Assist in employee training
  • Communicate the importance of quality products and processes, support the quality plans implemented, and provide the environment required for quality to be everyone’s daily responsibility
  • Monitor production performance against standards and identify and enforce counter-measures for below target performance

Skill Requirements

  • Associate degree in related field preferred
  • 3 or more years’ experience in manufacturing supervision (yarn manufacturing preferred)
  • Good leadership skills, ability to work in a team environment and to energize/motivate team members
  • People oriented with the ability to inspire enthusiasm in the workforce
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Good computer and software skills such as Microsoft Office
  • Hands on! Will have to lead by example

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment
  • Ability to walk long distances on a concrete floor
  • Ability to stand on concrete floor while interacting with team members
  • Ability to sit at a desk to complete paperwork, time sheets and other administrative tasks
  • Ability to periodically lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to periodically ascend and descend stairs and ladders
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
